Business Licences
Many businesses are subject to licences. Licences are designed to protect the interest and safety of the public regarding the use, application or sale of certain items or services. You should check with your local municipal office to determine whether your business is subject to a municipal licence. For a list of all Okanagan municipality and regional district websites, please visit CivicNet BC.
A note to those applying for licences in the North Okanagan:
The City of Vernon, the City of Armstrong, the City of Enderby, the District of Salmon Arm, and the Township of Spallumcheen, have come to an agreement to allow contractors and other service providers the opportunity to conduct business in all of these participating jurisdictions under one Intermunicipal Business Licence. An eligible business would continue to pay their normal base licence fee (for the community that their business is based from), and an additional licensing fee of $100.00 that would allow access to all other participating municipalities. Please contact any of these municipalities for further information on this program.
BizPaL:
THe BizPaL pilot project is lead by a group of partners representing all three levels of government. BizPaL currently includes the governments of Kamloops, Halton, Whitehorse, Yukon, British Columbia, and Ontario and Industry Canada.
BizPaL gives business owners and entrepreneurs a single point of contact so they can find out what permits and licences their business will need from municipal, provinciall/territorial and federal governments. With the help of a question and answer wizard, users input basic information about their location and the type of business they operate. The BizPaL search tool then generates a customized list of relevant permits and licenses, some basic information about them, and links to begin the application process.
